"I thank the consideration with which many citizens and many citizens have been suggested by one of my candidacy for mayor of Bologna. Of this I am deeply grateful and honored. However, I believe that in any way I could ever be "the candidate" of a party rather than another or any local or national politician authoritative because it would run with my current role as servant-third of all the citizens of Bologna. As is indicated by many as the candidate of my party, I express my unwillingness to be an expression of any national or local political party. With these circumstances, there can be any of my candidature, subject to the respect I have for the role of parties with whom I have always been able to cooperate in good faith in mutual consideration of the institutional roles. "
